Keep Your Floors Looking Their Best

Flooring, whether linoleum, tile, vinyl, marble, or wood requires regular care to keep it looking its best. Flooring is constructed of hard durable material, and thus can take a large degree of use and abuse. However, regular maintenance will keep you flooring looking clean and like new for years.

Simple maintenance tasks, such as vacuuming and dusting are essential to keeping your floors like new. Over time the dirt and sand that collects will wear and scratch the flooring surface, making it look dingy and dull. Weekly cleaning can prevent such wear from occurring.

Using casters, chair mats, and gliders on the feet of chairs, desks and tables will prevent scratching due to moving furniture across the surface. Floor mats and foot brushes at the doorway to the outside will lessen the amount of tracked in dirt, making cleaning easier.

When mopping or cleaning your floor, be cautious to use the cleaning solution recommended by the manufacturer. Different floor types require different types of cleaners. For example, using a strong acid based cleaner on marble floors will lead to etching and scratching of the surface. Never use abrasives, scrubbers or hard brushes to clean your floor. Sticky or gooey stains or spots can be easily removed by first using ice to harden the material, then carefully using a scraper to remove it.

If you floor becomes scratched, you may be able to buy a touch up stick from the manufacturer. The repair area is often not visible and will have the same durability as the original flooring material.

In the damage is more severe, have a floor maintenance company replace the damaged section. Done properly, the replaced section will be undetectable to the untrained eye.

Basic floor care is simple and easy if you follow the recommended care instructions. Your floor will provide beauty and last for years. but some floors require specific kinds of care so be sure to follow the manufacturers guidelines. Take all these care precautions and you will be assured of a long lasting, durable floor for years to come.
